World Championship J22, Naples, October 13–17, 2025.

The week between October 13 and October 17, meteo@uniparthenope provided technical and scientific support to the Lega Navale Napoli (LNI-NA) and the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) for the sailing event “World Championship J22, Naples, October 13–17, 2025”.

The activities, coordinated and supervised by Dr. Vincenzo Capozzi and Prof. Giorgio Budillon, consisted of preparing a meteorological bulletin for the regatta area and presenting the evolution of weather conditions through daily morning briefings held at the yacht club headquarters.

The in-lab working group, led by Dr. Diana Di Luccio and Prof. Raffaele Montella, and supported by the High-Performance Scientific Computing (HPSC) laboratory’s HPC facilities, handled on providing accurate and detailed weather and marine forecasts produced by HPC+AI models, thanks to the involvement of Dr. Gennaro Mellone (real-time weather data gathering network system and data processing specialist), Dario Caramiello (API and backend developer), and Francesco Peluso (front-end developer).

The on-site working group, which also included Ph.D. candidates Lauro D’Esposito (Polar Sciences) and Federico Vermi (Environmental Phenomena and Risks), was supported by Navigation Science and Technology students Francesco Gulisano, Francesco Serrapica, Simone Frattini, and Carmine Pallotta, as well as Dr. Alberto Fucci.

For the students participating in the preparation of the meteorological bulletins, it proved to be an essential hands-on learning opportunity, allowing them to apply their acquired knowledge and engage directly with real-world situations related to weather forecasting and communication.
