Good afternoon, Europe and the Mediterranean! As we look at the weather picture for November 18th, 2025, a dynamic mix of conditions is shaping up across the region.
Starting with cloud cover, the skies are largely clear over parts of Portugal and the central Mediterranean, with cloud fraction values dipping as low as zero in some areas. However, dense cloud coverage is notably present over the western Mediterranean and parts of the Middle East, where cloud fractions soar to nearly 100%.
Temperature-wise, northern Italy and the Alps are experiencing chilly conditions, with temperatures at 2 meters dropping as low as -9.6°C. Conversely, the eastern Mediterranean remains warm, with temperatures reaching up to 32.6°C.
Pressure patterns reveal a strong high-pressure system over the North Atlantic, pushing sea level pressures up to 1031.6 hPa, while a low-pressure area is centered over Scandinavia, with pressures dipping to 988.5 hPa.
In the upper atmosphere, the geopotential height at 500 hPa shows a trough extending over Eastern Europe, influencing lower temperatures and potential precipitation in those areas.
Relative humidity at 700 hPa is quite variable, with dry conditions over North Africa and parts of Spain, while the Baltic region experiences near saturation, prompting a chance of precipitation.
Wind speeds are noteworthy, particularly across the western Mediterranean and northern Europe, where gusts could reach up to 32 knots, impacting marine and coastal conditions.
Precipitation is mainly focused in the central Mediterranean, with some areas seeing rain rates of up to 14.3 mm per hour. Snowfall is expected in northern regions, including the UK and parts of Scandinavia, with snow water equivalent reaching up to 1.9 kg/m²/hr.
Stay tuned for local updates, and keep an umbrella handy if you’re in the path of those clouds!
